September 17, 2012

Welcome! Universidad Metropolitana (UMET) in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) are pleased to announce the launch of a new project for Hispanic women faculty in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields! The ADVANCE Hispanic Women’s STEM Networking Conference is a new project that was recently funded by the National Science Foundation.  Our first event will be a conference called Framing the Issue: A NETWORKing Workshop to Address Academic Advancement of Hispanic Women in STEM.  This workshop will address faculty advancement of Hispanic women through a pilot workshop that will be held in Puerto Rico, October 4-6, 2012.  The primary goal of this project is to provide a forum that will lay the groundwork for scientifically documenting the issues and concerns of the advancement of Hispanic women in the STEM academic pipeline and seek to establish the networks that can address these concerns on a broader, national level.

This 48-hour NETWORKing (New Explorations for Transforming Work, Opportunities, Research, and Knowledge) Workshop will include group discussions, break-out sessions, and mentoring that are specific to advancing women through faculty ranks.
